Mount Maunganui, Saturday – (JKNN) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has condemned the alleged use of offensive language by a group of Afghan spectators directed at Pakistani players during the third ODI against New Zealand.
The incident occurred during the match at Mount Maunganui, where tensions reportedly escalated after inappropriate remarks were made. Following a complaint from the Pakistani team, two Afghan-origin spectators were removed from the stadium.
Pakistan, already trailing in the series, suffered a 43-run defeat — marking a clean 0-3 sweep in the ODIs, following a 1-4 loss in the preceding T20I series.
Social media footage later showed cricketer Khushdil Shah being held back by security personnel as he appeared to confront the spectators.
The PCB, in an official statement, said: “When anti-Pakistan slogans emerged, Khushdil Shah attempted to calm the situation and requested the spectators to stop. However, the Afghan supporters escalated the matter with further inappropriate language in Pashto.”
This isn’t the first time tensions have erupted between Pakistani and Afghan fans, with similar clashes reported in previous fixtures between the two nations.
