Jammu 15 January 2026 : Mr. Rakesh Handoo, Incharge of the Migrant Cell and Spokesperson of Janata Dal (United), Jammu & Kashmir, has strongly condemned what he described as a malicious, irresponsible, and defamatory campaign allegedly carried out by Venay Raina, with repeated references to Sandeep Mawa, targeting him and his family.
Speaking exclusively to Awami Reporter, Handoo said that dragging family members and personal life into public discourse is unacceptable, unethical, and legally untenable. He asserted that political disagreement or ideological differences can never justify character assassination, personal abuse, or reckless public statements.
“This kind of rubbish talk reflects desperation and moral bankruptcy. My family has nothing to do with political rivalries, and I will not tolerate attempts to malign their dignity,” Handoo said, warning that he is left with no option but to initiate strict legal action if such attacks continue.
Handoo made it clear that the alleged statements and narratives being circulated are baseless and motivated, aimed at provoking controversy and damaging reputations rather than engaging in constructive political debate. He said that all statements, recordings, and social media material are being documented and examined from a legal standpoint.
“As a public representative, I am accountable to the people. But my private life and my family are off-limits. Any further attempt to defame or harass us will be met with firm action under the law,” he stated.
The JD(U) leader reiterated that freedom of speech does not mean freedom to defame, and cautioned individuals involved to desist immediately from spreading unverified and derogatory content. He emphasized that Indian law provides clear remedies against defamation, intimidation, and harassment, and he is prepared to pursue them to their logical conclusion.
Handoo also appealed for responsible journalism and mature public discourse, stating that inflammatory remarks only deepen divisions and distract from real issues affecting people, particularly migrant communities in Jammu and Kashmir.
Handoo has serious allegations of illicit relationship which goes against Hindu customs.
