Srinagar, July 11 (JKNN): In a significant move to bolster fire safety infrastructure, the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has commissioned an Intelligent Fire Detection and Alarm System at its Central Store and Pharmacy Block.

The initiative comes under the hospital’s ongoing commitment to patient and staff safety. Speaking on the occasion, Director SKIMS Prof. A. Ganie emphasized, “Fire safety in hospitals is non-negotiable—preparedness saves lives.”

To assess readiness and emergency response, a mock drill was jointly conducted by the SKIMS Fire & Security teams in collaboration with the Fire & Emergency Services Department. The drill aimed to simulate a real-time scenario, testing coordination, response time, and evacuation protocols.

Authorities at SKIMS reiterated that regular audits, staff training, and infrastructure upgrades are part of the institution’s fire risk management strategy.

The newly installed system is expected to enhance early detection, minimize fire-related risks, and improve emergency response capabilities in the high-risk zones of the hospital.
