Locals report being charged excessive consultation fees, overpriced diagnostic tests, and unjustified admission costs—placing a heavy burden on already struggling families.
Residents say that instead of offering relief, these centres have become profit-making hubs, prioritising money over medical ethics.
“They don’t treat patients with humanity; they see them as walking ATMs,” said one aggrieved attendant outside a private clinic in Srinagar.
Public frustration is now spilling over, with calls for government intervention growing louder. Citizens are urging health authorities to fix standard rates, regulate private medical practices, and hold profiteers accountable.
In a place already grappling with unemployment, mental stress, and limited access to government healthcare, the alleged exploitation by private health centres is sparking widespread anger and disillusionment.
