February 12, 2024: In a resolute effort to uphold food safety standards and protect public health, an intensive food safety inspection drive was conducted in various areas of Srinagar under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, Yameen ul Nabi. The inspection team, comprising food safety officers Syed Dilpazir, Khalid Bashir, Hakeem Adil, and Fayaz Ahmad, meticulously examined food stalls and roadside eateries in Batamaloo, Tangpora, and Mominabad. The primary focus of this drive was to ensure that food business operators, particularly those selling ready-to-eat street food, adhered to hygiene and sanitary standards. During the inspection, several violations were identified, leading to three compounds being submitted to the court under Section 56 of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act.Beyond enforcement, the Drug and Food Control Organisation took a proactive approach by educating roadside vendors about the importance of maintaining cleanliness and ensuring hygienic food preparation. FBOs were also directed to conduct regular pest control measures and avoid setting up stalls near drains, which pose serious health risks.Assistant Commissioner Yameen ul Nabi has been at the forefront of ensuring food safety in Srinagar, reinforcing the DFCO’s zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration and unhygienic practices. His leadership has led to multiple inspection drives in the past, with strict action taken against violators.Speaking about the ongoing efforts, an official from the DFCO emphasized that such inspections will continue across Srinagar. Food business operators found violating hygiene standards will face strict legal consequences, which could even result in the closure of their facilities. The public health mission spearheaded by Yameen ul Nabi and his dedicated team is a significant step toward fostering a culture of food safety awareness in Srinagar. His unwavering efforts deserve appreciation, as they contribute to ensuring that the people of the city consume safe, hygienic, and high-quality food. With such rigorous inspection drives, the administration sends a clear message: compromising on food safety will not be tolerated. This initiative not only safeguards public health but also promotes a responsible and hygienic food culture among vendors and business operators. As inspection drives intensify, food vendors and business operators must comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act to avoid legal repercussions. The commitment shown by Yameen ul Nabi and his team reflects the government’s determination to protect consumers from unsafe food practices, ensuring that the streets of Srinagar offer food that is both delicious and safe.
