Srinagar 18 May 2026: In an era where lifestyle diseases are silently becoming one of the biggest health challenges in Kashmir, a young Kashmiri Exercise Physiologist is attempting to reshape the conversation around fitness, preventive healthcare, and healthy ageing through science-backed community wellness programs.
Dr. Mir Ahsan ul Haq, founder of the ActiveAge Wellness Initiative, has emerged as one of the few professionals from Kashmir working extensively in the field of Exercise Physiology — a globally recognized discipline that combines medical science, human performance, rehabilitation, and preventive healthcare through structured physical activity.

Having completed his Bachelor’s degree in Health Education & Sports Sciences, followed by specialized Master’s and PhD studies in Exercise Physiology from the prestigious University of Delhi, Dr. Ahsan has dedicated his academic and professional journey to understanding how scientifically supervised exercise can transform lives, particularly among adults and senior citizens.
His academic work and research have focused on physical activity, functional fitness, mobility, healthy ageing, obesity management, diabetes prevention, hypertension control, women’s wellness issues such as PCOS/PCOD, and overall community health improvement. His research contributions have gained international academic recognition, with publications appearing in Scopus-indexed journals linked to countries including Brazil, Spain, Ukraine, and other global research platforms.
Beyond publications, Dr. Ahsan has actively represented his research at multiple national and international conferences related to Exercise Physiology, preventive healthcare, physical activity, and wellness sciences — allowing him to engage with evolving global healthcare trends and modern evidence-based wellness approaches.
One of the defining influences in his journey came during his visits to Melbourne, Australia, where he closely observed advanced community wellness systems and exercise physiology-driven preventive healthcare models. The structured culture of active living, outdoor wellness, mobility-focused ageing, and scientifically guided public health programs left a deep impact on him.
Inspired by those international experiences, Dr. Ahsan returned with a vision — to create awareness in Kashmir that fitness is not merely about bodybuilding or aesthetics, but about improving quality of life, preventing disease, preserving mobility, and helping people age with dignity and strength.
Since 2018, he has been actively involved in community-based wellness initiatives connected to his academic research work under the University of Delhi. Today, through ActiveAge, he is working to bridge the gap between scientific exercise knowledge and public access to preventive healthcare in Kashmir.
He is also currently pursuing the globally respected ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) Exercise Physiologist pathway, further strengthening his expertise in clinical exercise science and preventive healthcare practices.
At the heart of his initiative is a simple but powerful belief: many chronic lifestyle diseases can be managed, delayed, or even prevented through awareness, movement, and structured exercise under professional guidance.
Under his supervision, ActiveAge is currently conducting professionally supervised outdoor wellness sessions at Eco Park, Foreshore Road, while also expanding its indoor wellness setup in partnership with Lifeline Healthcare, Shalimar. The sessions focus on mobility, balance, endurance, flexibility, strength, posture correction, and healthy ageing — particularly for adults above 40 years of age.
Dr. Ahsan credits much of his inspiration to his uncle, Jamal u Din Bhat, whose lifelong commitment to public service motivated him to dedicate his work towards societal wellbeing and community health.
His message to the youth of Kashmir reflects both urgency and hope:
“Build a healthier society for yourself and your loved ones. Stay active, serve people, spread awareness, and help create a community where people can live stronger, healthier, and better lives.”
As Kashmir increasingly grapples with rising obesity, stress-related illnesses, sedentary lifestyles, and lifestyle disorders, initiatives like ActiveAge represent a growing shift towards preventive healthcare — where science, movement, and community wellness come together to build a healthier future.
