Srinagar: In a significant boost to the horticulture sector of Jammu and Kashmir, the Department of Horticulture Planning and Marketing showcased the region’s diverse agri-horticultural produce at the prestigious Horti India Expo 2026 held at the state-of-the-art Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi from March 12 to March 14.
The event, organized by SV Global Expo, brought together global stakeholders from the horticulture and agro-processing industries, providing an international platform for business-to-business interactions, technological exchange and global market integration.
Under the leadership of Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, the department facilitated the participation of ten Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) from across the Union Territory. These organizations showcased a wide array of horticultural and agricultural products, highlighting the region’s rich potential in fruit production, value addition and agri-enterprises.

Mr. Zargar, who inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest, emphasized the importance of connecting farmers and agri-entrepreneurs with national and international markets. Addressing participants from across India and abroad, he highlighted that platforms such as Horti India Expo are vital for promoting innovation, strengthening agricultural value chains and opening new trade avenues for farmers.

He also drew attention to the diverse and high-quality horticultural produce of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the growing focus on value-added products developed by FPOs in the region. Zargar reiterated the government’s commitment to transforming the agricultural landscape through flagship initiatives such as the Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture and Agriculture Development Program and the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture and Allied Sectors Project, which aim to strengthen the competitiveness of farmers and agri-based enterprises.
Encouraging participants to make the most of the international platform, he urged them to actively engage with buyers, explore new collaborations and secure meaningful business opportunities that could benefit the farming community back home.
The expo witnessed participation from international markets including Russia, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Germany, alongside numerous stakeholders from across India. The presence of Jammu and Kashmir’s horticulture sector at such a global platform was widely appreciated, reflecting the growing momentum of the region’s agri-economy.
Officials said the participation not only helped showcase the region’s premium produce to a global audience but also reinforced Jammu and Kashmir’s emerging position as a key player in India’s horticulture landscape. Under the proactive guidance of Director Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, the department continues to focus on expanding market access, promoting value addition and ensuring sustainable growth for the farming community of the Union Territory.
