Protest Erupts in J&K Over
Electric Shock Deaths Ignored, No Compensation Given—J&K Power Staff Raise Voice

- Srinagar 24/06/2025 (JKNN) The Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee, led by Chairman JKPCC Nasir Ahmad Bhat, Vice Chairman JKPCC zulkarnain bhat staged a strong protest today against the government’s silence on SRO-43 and the denial of ex-gratia relief and job benefits to electricity workers.
Speaking during the protest, Bhat highlighted that power department employees risk their lives daily—climbing poles, facing electrical shocks, and working tirelessly in harsh weather, including snow and storms—to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the people. Yet, the government fails to acknowledge their sacrifices.
“When a power employee dies on duty, it’s not just one life lost—an entire family suffers, often left without financial support or government compensation. Sadly, no ex-gratia relief or job is offered to the deceased’s kin said Bhat.
He called the treatment of permanent and daily wage workers “a clear injustice”, emphasizing that these employees are the backbone of the power infrastructure and deserve security, compensation, and dignity.
The committee has appealed to the Current J&K CM Minister Omar Abdullah, Lieutenant Governor’s administration to amend the SRO-43 policy and ensure fair treatment of all power department employees before further agitation is launched.
